Drop Off/Pick Up

All students should enter and exit the building using the Sacramento Ballet door on the south side of the building from the parking lot. Please note that Sacramento Ballet is not a child-care provider. Our fees do not reflect supervision outside the studio classroom. Students must be picked up at the time their class ends. If you are unable to pick your child up in a timely fashion, kindly call the front desk to make them aware. Parents will be charged a fee of $5.00 per 15 minutes for any time the staff must wait beyond the allowed pick up time.

Sickness and Injuries

In the event of an illness please keep your child at home, enter the absence in the Parent Portal and notify the front desk as soon as possible. Injured students are asked to observe required classes and rehearsals while recovering from injury. If they’re under the care of a doctor, a doctor’s note/release letter is required.

Attendance

Students are expected to attend every class they are scheduled for. Consistent attendance is critical to progress. Please be punctual and ready for class. We recommend arriving at least 5-10 minutes early to ensure your student is ready and lined up for class with their ballet shoes on, dance bags stored away and water bottle in hand before class begins. Late arrivals disrupt class concentration and put the student at risk for injury. If your student is more than 15 minutes late they may be asked to warm up separately or observe class and take notes.

Please enter any absences your child may have through the Parent Portal.

Missing more than 10% of classes, will affect participation in performances and may require repeating the level the following year.

Make Up Classes

To schedule a make up class please log into the Parent Portal and select the class your dancer will be attending.

Dancers in the Children’s Division and Levels 1-4 should take a class in their same level on a different day/time, if possible. If not, dancers may take any class in a lower level with prior teacher approval. Dancers in Level 5 and above may take any class in a lower level.

Ballet Classroom Etiquette

Talking in class is not permitted. If a student has a question, they should raise their hand and wait to be called on. Only bottled water is allowed in the studio. Eating and drinking is allowed ONLY in the hallways. Students MUST clean up after themselves. Students should not touch or place anything on the pianos or electronic equipment. All personal electronics must be silenced and kept in a dance bag. Sacramento Ballet is not responsible for any missing valuables. Students are responsible for keeping their belongings secure. Children’s Division students should store their items in the black cubbies. Student and Pre-professional division students should store bags in the hallway next to their classroom.

Respect in and around CLARA

School of Sacramento Ballet is located in a public building. Please be mindful of others and your surroundings at all times. Please be quiet and respectful in the hallways and other public spaces while inside the CLARA building. We kindly request practicing extra safety precautions while driving and parking in the lot and around the facility.

It is the policy of School of Sacramento Ballet to maintain a positive and productive learning and working environment for all students, staff and dancers. As part of their training, students are expected to behave in a responsible and disciplined manner and to adhere to the rules and regulations in this document, both inside the Sacramento Ballet facility and outside in the greater community when representing School of Sacramento Ballet or the Company.

School of Sacramento Ballet strives to ensure that all rules are clear and reasonable, and students are expected to observe the established Code of Conduct. Sacramento Ballet reserves the right to suspend or dismiss any student whose conduct or attitude is found to be unsatisfactory.

We will utilize a “Three Strikes Rule” regarding disciplinary action. A “Strike” is applied when a student does not fulfill the rules, procedures and standards of conduct as outlined in the Code of Conduct Agreement.

Warning by Faculty or staff member; the student is reported to the School Director and School Administrator.

Disciplinary meeting with the School Director and School Administrator; phone call to parent or legal guardian.

Private Lessons at School of Sacramento Ballet

Students of School of Sacramento Ballet may request a private lesson with the faculty members of the academy. All private lessons involving any students of School of Sacramento Ballet will first need to be approved by the School Director. To ensure the quality and standards of the school, instructors teaching private lessons must be approved by the School Director. Please follow the steps outlined here:

  • Students must first request the Front Desk for private lessons and inquire from an approved faculty member pool. The instructor will contact them. Each instructor has their own pay scale for private lessons. Students will pay them directly.
  • Next the student needs to inquire at the Front Desk for studio availability, and coordinate with the instructor giving the private lesson.
  • The Front Desk will book the studio for the private lesson according to studio availability. They will let the student know at the time of booking which studio they are booked in.
  • Students will pay the instructors their teaching fee directly at the time of the private lesson and the school for studio rental at $20/hr at the time of booking.

Please note:  Private lessons are only available when a school staff member is present at the studio or otherwise approved by the school.

Instructors may not move or augment this private lesson to another studio or encourage students to attend another school in which they are teaching. This may result in dismissal of both student and instructor.

Students and instructors may not use these private lessons to replace school classes.

A limited number of full and partial financial scholarships are available based on need and merit. Scholarship Program students—and their parents or guardians if under the age of 18—must demonstrate a high level of interest and commitment to the program and School of Sacramento Ballet, as reflected by consistent attendance and positive, respectful behavior in the classroom and community.

To be considered, applicants must submit the Scholarship Application materials and meet with the Executive Director. New applicants may be required to participate in a class evaluation. Final acceptance into the program will be determined by the Executive Director in consultation with Division Leads and the School Administrator.

Families will receive written notification of acceptance once the application evaluation process has been completed. The duration of each Scholarship extends from the student’s acceptance into the program through the end of the school year session in May. Scholarship awards will be considered for potential extension to include summer programs upon request.

All current scholarship students must reapply for consideration before the start of the new school year in August. To confirm participation, the enclosed Scholarship Agreement must be signed and returned by the stated deadline. If the agreement is not returned on time, it will be assumed that the student is declining the scholarship award and its terms.

Guardians of scholarship recipients are required to contribute 30 volunteer hours per school year, depending on the amount of the scholarship award received. Volunteer support may be needed in a variety of capacities at school events. Major events this year include: Ballet in the Park (September 19) and Recital Week (May 10–16).

Approximately half of the required hours should be completed by January 2027. Families not actively working toward fulfilling their volunteer commitment may be

asked to attend a follow-up meeting with the Executive Director and risk forfeiture of the scholarship award.

Students awarded a Scholarship are expected to meet the obligations set forth in the enclosed Scholarship Agreement throughout the year in order to remain in good standing.r full scholarships may be awarded on a case-by-case basis, based on a student’s demonstrated financial need, desire, dance potential, commitment, and By accepting a scholarship, the student and their parent or guardian (if under 18) agree to fulfill the following responsibilities throughout the duration of the scholarship year:
