School of Sacramento Ballet and EPY Pilates are collaborating to create a Gyrotonics Pilot Program for the Pre-Professional 2 Division students. These dancers are classically trained, aspiring artists who will audition to join Sacramento Ballet’s Second Company and other national level trainee companies. They work hard while they train and hone their skills for careers with major dance companies.

The Gyrotonics Pilot Program will create dancers who will move from their deep core muscles, find alignment, to mobilize myofascial tissues, improve flexibility and strength.  The combination of the benefits will result in longer lines, establish efficient movement and reduce incidents of injury.

To see how cross training with Gyrotonic and Gyrokinesis can help dancers become better dancers.

The dancers will attend classes a week.  One will be on the Gyrotonic equipment at EPY Pilates in East Sacramento and and the other will be a Gyrokinesis class taught at the Sacramento Ballet studios.  There will be two teachers for each class.

The program will be from January – May of 2024.

Certified Gyrotonic and Gyrokinesis trainers from EPY Pilates.

We want to support the Sacramento Ballet Pre-Professional 2 dancers prepare for a professional career.

EPY Pilates will donate the space for the dancer and instructors to use and Sacramento Ballet will donate the studio for the second class. However, there are overhead costs involved.

This is where your help is needed. Your contribution will be earmarked for this program only.

Please support the talented Pre-Professional 2 dancers with your donation.  Make the donation by check payable to Sacramento Ballet or press the Donate button below.

GYROTONIC® exercise uses equipment developed around the design of the human body. Unlike most conventional exercise equipment where linear or isolated movements are performed, GYROTONIC® equipment emphasizes multiple joint articulations without compression of the joints. This creates freedom of movement and a tempo of exercise so that the body can focus on coordination, strength, and flexibility without interference from the machine. The uniqueness of the system is that it simultaneously stretches and strengthens the body in a three-dimensional plane with minimal effort, while increasing range of motion and developing coordination. Special attention is given to moves that increase the functional capacity of the spine, resulting in a superior and well-proportioned body, which is significantly less prone to injuries. Each exercise is synchronized with a corresponding breathing pattern and is performed with either a rhythmic or melodic rhythmic expression.  The results are supple, powerful, lean, long, and coordinated muscles. Whether you are already an accomplished athlete or dance professional looking to supplement your current training or someone who hasn’t exercised in years, GYROTONIC® Exercise can result in increased strength, flexibility, and coordination.

GYROKINESIS® exercise systematically and gently works the joints and muscles through a series of rhythmic exercises and offers similar benefits also found in yoga, dance, swimming, and tai-chi. A GYROKINESIS® session works the entire body through seven natural elements of spinal movement: flexion, extension, lateral flexion right, lateral flexion left, rotation right, rotation left and undulation. The combination of these movements stimulates the body’s internal organs and nervous system, open-up energy pathways and oxygenate the blood. Fluidity is key to the GYROKINESIS® movements. Postures are not held for long periods of time. Instead, postures are smoothly and harmoniously connected through the use of different breath patterns. Classes begin with participants seated on low stools, breathing and massaging their own muscles. The focus moves to the spine through a series of arching, bending, twisting and spiraling movements. These same fluid movement patterns are expanded to release the hips, knees, hamstrings and quadriceps in all possible directions. Ultimately the GYROKINESIS® movements will invigorate and re-educate the body to move in a more fluid, relaxed and powerful manner. GYROKINESIS® exercise is appropriate for all ages and fitness levels.
