Cinderella
One of the world’s most beloved fairytales, Cinderella is the ideal ballet for Valentine’s Day Weekend, and Ron Cunningham’s telling of the “rags to riches” love story is a treat from start to finish. Pageantry and humor, magnificent dancing, and glorious music, characters we have known for decades seen through the magic of dance. Cunningham’s Cinderella has been seen in major cities throughout the world. It was the first American ballet to be performed in the People’s Republic of China, and the live broadcast of the production was aired to over 30 million people. This production has not been seen in Sacramento since 1997, so from the hilarious Stepsisters, the handsome Prince, to Cinderella and her pumpkin coach, experience the fun all over again – quick, before the clock strikes twelve.
FREE with purchase of ticket: Enhance your enjoyment of the performance by joining Ron Cunningham 45 minutes prior to curtain for an informal and entertaining inside view of the performance.

Genius Series
GENIUS!
George Balanchine is heralded as the greatest choreographer of the 20th century. His genius revolutionized classical dance and changed forever how we view this ephemeral art form. His influence on dance is often compared to that of Stravinsky in music, and Picasso in art. Now for the first time ever, by special permission from the Balanchine Trust, experience a cornucopia of brilliant excerpts from the legendary master in the intimate setting of the Sacramento Ballet studios. Here’s what you’ll see:
Tchaikovsky Pas de Deux
An 8 minute duet of lyric romanticism and technical bravura to a Tchaikovsky score discovered by Balanchine after having been lost for 50 years.
Tarantella
A playful tribute to Italy with explosive virtuosity to the infectious music of Creole composer, Louis Moreau Gottschalk.
Concerto Barocco
Sublime choreographic architecture to the 2nd movement of Johann Sebastian Bach’s Double Violin Concerto. Balanchine’s sophisticated musicality is perfectly reflected in his famous quote, “Hear the Dance, See the Music!”
The Four Temperaments
The Three Themes from one of Mr. B’s earliest “Black & White” ballets clearly defines his neoclassic approach to dance. The music, by German composer Paul Hindemith, was originally commissioned by Balanchine to play at home for friends and later adapted for the stage with ground breaking inventiveness.
La Sonnambula
A mesmerizing duet between the mysterious “Sleepwalker” and the “Poet” with music drawn from the Opera’s of Vincenzo Bellini and Vittorio Rieti. This rarely seen masterpiece is a breathtakingly beautiful and intense spiritual experience.
Stars and Stripes
Balanchine’s patriotic salute to his beloved adopted country. Set to the music of the “March King” John Philip Sousa, excerpts include a regiment of high stepping women, a military battalion of men, and a tongue-in-cheek duet for “Liberty Bell” and “El Capitan.”

"The Making Of", behind the scenes photos by Alex Biber

The Sacramento Ballet and the Firefighters Burn Institute have partnered to create a 2012 calendar featuring photographs that combine ballet dancers and firefighters. To select the finalists, contestants' photos were posted on the organizations' two websites where everyone could vote for their favorites! Each vote cost $2, raising a subtantial amount. Proceeds from the contests directly benefited the two organizations.
