Best-known and most beloved of all Sacramento traditions, Ron Cunningham’s 28th production of his delightful The Nutcracker is a true holiday spectacle. The enormous growing Christmas tree, Clara’s fearless battle with the Mouse King, the soaring Magic Balloon, the sparkling Snowflake Forest, the delicious Kingdom of the Sweets, and the radiant elegance of the Sugar Plum Fairy have been creating family memories for almost three decades. And yes, the Sacramento Ballet partners once again with the Front Street Animal Shelter to find homes for our adorable canines starring in the Prologue. Live music is an option for selected performances. Make your holiday complete with The Nutcracker!

The Sacramento Ballet hopes you’ll join us to learn more about our favorite holiday tradition! Arrive at the theatre by 12:30pm on Saturday or 11:30am on Sunday to watch the end of company class on stage, see the stagehands begin preparations for the performance, and talk with our Artistic Directors, the Sugar Plum Fairy and her Cavalier about what makes this ballet a magical experience for everyone involved!

We hope you will join us for a spirited pre-performance talk with Henrik Jul Hansen, Conductor of the Sacramento Philharmonic Orchestra, and Artistic Director, Ron Cunningham as they reveal the amazing history of Tchaikovsky’s famous score, and fun anecdotes about the Nutcracker over the years!

Our heroine, Clara, is overjoyed to have received a special Nutcracker from her favorite uncle, Dr. Drosselmeyer. She invites children of all ages to bring their favorite doll or toy to the show to meet her magical Nutcracker and dancers from the professional company. In the Grand Tier Loge for 15 minutes immediately after the performance, meet, greet, snap photos, and make lasting memories to remember how much you love the Nutcracker!
